1,2-benzisothiazolin-3-one (BIT) is a low toxicity compound. The oral LD50 of rats is 1400mg/kg, and no carcinogenicity, teratogenicity, and mutagenicity have been found. It is irritating to the skin.

Good solubility, 1,2-benzisothiazolin-3-one (BIT) is compatible with most raw materials used in products sensitive to microorganisms. immiscible with water and some organic solvents, and stable to amine compounds.The specific compatibility must be confirmed before use. This product can be added to any process, and has no requirements or adverse effects on the application system.

Excellent chemical stability, no additional stabilizers are required, and the bactericidal efficacy remains unchanged in a wide pH range (4 to 12) and at a high temperature of 150 °C. Does not burn and is easy to transport.

When there are organic substances, non-ionic, anionic, and cationic surfactants in the system, the bacteriostatic effect will not be affected. And it has a long-term protective effect on the anti-corrosion material system.

It is easy to use, can be added directly without special equipment in production, no residual pollution, has no corrosion to metals, a half-life in soil is less than 24h, and will not accumulate in aquatic organisms.

BIT has been widely used in marine antifouling, anti-corrosion, and mildew prevention of various industrial products, agricultural and forestry environmental protection, and other fields by developed countries (such as Europe, America and Japan. ) certification.

No release of formaldehyde, no halogen, no volatility, no heavy metals, low odor, no foaming, no adverse effects on the added system (such as color, taste, etc.), and can prevent sludge formation.

BIT has the advantage of little damage to enzyme preparations, and can be used in enzyme-added laundry detergents for long-term preservation.

The antibacterial mechanism of BIT is as follows: by destroying the permeability of the cell membrane, affecting the activity of related enzymes on the membrane and in the cell, resulting in the destruction of the integrity of the cell wall or affecting the metabolic activity of the cell, thereby playing a bactericidal effect. There is no specific mode of action, which suggests that bacterial antibodies are unlikely to be produced.

Benzisothiazolinone is used in several cleaning products, including green cleaning ones, such as laundry detergents, air fresheners, fabric softeners, stain removers, dish detergents, stainless steel cleaners, and more. It is used at a rate of 0.10% to 0.30% (by weight) when added to laundry and household cleaning products according to the EPA in the 2005 document, Registration Eligibility Decision (RED) for Benzisothiazoline-3-one. Also, it is important to point out that it is often used in many cleaning products in conjunction with methylisothiazolinone, a synthetic preservative with some health concerns.
